United Kingdom reads below in 4 chapters — England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland — in any order you like.
Chapter I · England · 33 places
England
An artificial tarn created in the nineteenth century by damming several small natural pools, Tarn Hows is one of the most visited sites in the Lake District National Park. The surrounding landscape of mixed woodland and open fell was deliberately designed as a picturesque composition, and it remains effective — particularly in autumn when larch and birch turn gold. A level path of roughly two kilometres circuits the tarn, making it one of the more accessible fell walks.
Chapter II · Wales · 22 places
Wales
A castle in the centre of the Welsh capital combining a Norman keep on a motte with lavish Victorian Gothic Revival interiors. Its opulent apartments were designed by William Burges for the wealthy Bute family.

Chapter III · Scotland · 20 places
Scotland
A restored abbey on a small Hebridean island long tied to early Celtic Christianity. It marks the site of Columba's ancient monastery.
Chapter IV · Northern Ireland · 10 places
Northern Ireland
The Mourne Mountains are a compact range of granite peaks in County Down, rising from the Irish Sea coast to a high point of 850 metres at Slieve Donard, the highest summit in Northern Ireland. The range is contained by the Mourne Wall, a dry-stone boundary wall constructed in the early twentieth century, which traverses fifteen summits over roughly 35 kilometres. The wild character of the Mournes strongly influenced the landscape writing of C.S. Lewis in his childhood.
