Skara Brae is a Neolithic settlement on the Bay of Skaill on the west coast of Mainland Orkney, dated to between 3100 and 2500 BCE, making it among the oldest and best-preserved prehistoric villages in northern Europe. Eight clustered stone-built dwellings remain, complete with interior stone furniture including beds, hearths, and dressers, uncovered when a storm stripped the covering dune in 1850. The site is part of the Heart of Neolithic Orkney UNESCO World Heritage listing.
