Eilean Donan is a small tidal island at the confluence of three sea lochs in the western Highlands, connected to the mainland by a narrow stone bridge. The castle occupying the island was largely reconstructed in the early twentieth century on medieval foundations and is among the most frequently photographed castles in Scotland. Reflections of the fortified tower in the still loch waters at dawn are a particularly sought-after image.
