Fingal's Cave is a sea cave on the uninhabited Isle of Staffa in the Inner Hebrides, formed entirely from hexagonally jointed basalt columns of the same lava flow as the Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland. The cave extends roughly 20 metres into the island and reaches a height of about 20 metres at its entrance. The resonance of waves within the columnar vault inspired Felix Mendelssohn's Hebrides Overture after his 1829 visit.
