Chapter I · Otago Region · 52 places
Otago Region
A prominent ridgeline above Lake Wānaka, Roys Peak is climbed via a single well-maintained track that gains roughly 1,200 metres over approximately eight kilometres. The classic photograph is taken from a false summit spur where a lone figure appears silhouetted against the turquoise lake far below. The panorama extends to the snow-covered peaks of Mount Aspiring National Park.

Canterbury Region
Centred on New Zealand's highest peak at 3,724 metres, this national park in the Southern Alps contains 19 of the country's 27 tallest mountains and the Tasman Glacier, the longest in the country. The Hooker Valley Track offers accessible views of the summit and terminates at a glacial lake where icebergs calve from the terminal face. The park is an International Dark Sky Reserve, making it a premier site for southern-hemisphere astrophotography.
