The site where the Treaty of Waitangi was signed on 6 February 1840 between the British Crown and Māori chiefs, the Waitangi Treaty Grounds is New Zealand's most significant historical location. The grounds include the Treaty House, the oldest surviving building in the country, as well as the world's largest ceremonial waka hourua and a traditional Māori meeting house. Cultural performances and guided interpretation are provided daily.
