A small glacial kettle lake near Fox Glacier township, Lake Matheson is internationally known for its mirror reflections of Aoraki/Mount Cook and Mount Tasman on calm mornings. The lake is encircled by a well-maintained 4.5-kilometre loop track through kahikatea and rimu forest. Early morning visits before wind disturbs the water surface yield the clearest reflections.
