A collection of unusually large spherical boulders distributed along Koekohe Beach on the Otago coast, the Moeraki Boulders are septarian concretions that formed within seafloor sediment approximately 60 million years ago. Coastal erosion has gradually exposed the boulders, which range from half a metre to over two metres in diameter. The boulders are photographically compelling at sunrise and low tide when they reflect in shallow water.
