A drowned valley system at the northern end of South Island, the Marlborough Sounds comprise nearly 1,500 kilometres of coastline spread across the inlets of Queen Charlotte, Pelorus, and Kenepuru sounds. The Queen Charlotte Track, a well-established walking route, follows ridge lines above forested bays with regular boat-taxi services. The sounds are also known for Greenshell mussel aquaculture and sheltered sea kayaking.
