Chapter I · Busan · 27 places

Busan

Occupying a hillside between Gyeongbokgung and Changdeokgung, Bukchon preserves several hundred traditional hanok courtyard houses in the heart of modern Seoul. The tiled rooflines cascade down alleyways that converge at a small hilltop overlook — a viewpoint widely recognised as one of Seoul's signature vistas — particularly striking in early morning before the crowds gather.

Chapter II · Jeju Province · 21 places

Jeju Province

A UNESCO World Natural Heritage tuff cone that erupted from the sea approximately 100,000 years ago, Seongsan Ilchulbong — literally 'Sunrise Peak' — rises 182 metres from the eastern tip of Jeju Island. Its crater rim, lined with 99 rock pinnacles, frames a broad green bowl at the summit. The climb takes roughly 30 minutes and rewards with wide coastal views that are best in the orange light of early morning.

Chapter III · Gangwon Province · 16 places

Gangwon Province

The most dramatic of Korea's mountain parks, Seoraksan occupies the northern Taebaek range and is defined by granite spires, deep gorges, and broadleaf forests that turn vivid red and orange each autumn. The Ulsanbawi rock formation — a cluster of six granite pillars accessible via a steep 1.5-kilometre staircase — is one of the park's most photographed subjects. Buddhist temples, including Sinheungsa, sit at the mountain's base.

Chapter IV · Gyeonggi Province · 13 places

Gyeonggi Province

A late-eighteenth-century fortress wall encircling the old center of Suwon, complete with gates, command posts, and floodgates over a stream. Visitors can walk long stretches of the ramparts between restored towers.
