The largest and most imposing of Seoul's Five Grand Palaces, Gyeongbokgung was the seat of Joseon Dynasty power from its founding in 1395. Its Geunjeongjeon throne hall, framed by tiered stone terraces and flanked by stone figures, offers one of the finest architectural compositions in Korean history. The southern Gwanghwamun Gate provides a dramatic foreground against the Bugaksan ridge at dawn.
