A long civic plaza running down the center of Sejong-daero between the Gwanghwamun gate and the city's business core. Opened in its modern form in 2009 and remodeled with more greenery and water features afterward, it has become the main gathering ground for national celebrations, rallies, and festivals. Two large bronze statues anchor the space: the seated figure of King Sejong the Great, creator of the Korean alphabet, and Admiral Yi Sun-sin. Beneath the Sejong statue sits a small exhibition hall on his life and achievements.
