A masterwork of Unified Silla Buddhist architecture, Bulguksa was founded in the 6th century and rebuilt after extensive destruction during the 16th-century Japanese invasions. Its stone staircases — Cheongungyo and Baegungyo — rise to gate complexes that frame the main courtyard, home to two of Korea's most important stone pagodas: Dabotap and Seokgatap. The temple is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
