A coastal city on the East Sea directly adjacent to the entrance of Seoraksan National Park, Sokcho serves as both a beach resort and the gateway for hikers approaching the park's Inner and Outer Seorak trails. Abai Village, a community settled by North Korean refugees along a narrow peninsula flanked by tidal inlets, offers a historically distinctive neighbourhood of simple seafood restaurants and flat-bottomed ferry crossings.
