Chapter I · Muscat Governorate · 13 places
Muscat Governorate
Oman's coastal capital occupies a dramatic setting between the Al Hajar mountains and the Gulf of Oman, with the historic core concentrated around a natural harbour flanked by Portuguese-built forts. The Mutrah Corniche curves past a busy fishing port and a traditional souk renowned for silver jewellery, frankincense, and antiques. Unlike many Gulf capitals, Muscat retains strict building height controls and a coherent low-rise architectural character in its older districts.
Chapter II · Ad Dakhiliyah Governorate · 7 places
Ad Dakhiliyah Governorate
A finely decorated Omani castle known for its painted ceilings, carved doorways and refined living quarters rather than pure defence. Built as a seat of learning and governance, it stands amid date plantations near Bahla.

Chapter III · Ash Sharqiyah South Governorate · 5 places
Ash Sharqiyah South Governorate
Masirah is a desert island off Oman's east coast reached by ferry across a shallow channel. Its beaches host large numbers of nesting sea turtles and draw kitesurfers to steady winds.
Chapter IV · Al Batinah South Governorate · 3 places
Al Batinah South Governorate
Perched on a dramatic rocky outcrop above a falaj-fed oasis on the western Batinah plain, Nakhal Fort is among the best-preserved and most photogenic of Oman's many hilltop fortifications. The multilevel structure dates in its current form to the early seventeenth century, with pre-Islamic foundations, and overlooks a landscape of date palms and almond orchards fed by a thermal spring. The interior preserves original plasterwork, carved wooden doors, and traditional Omani architectural details.
