Frankincense once moved empires, and Oman's Dhofar region was its source. This serial site gathers the wild frankincense trees of Wadi Dawkah, the caravan oasis of Shisr — linked to the legend of Ubar — and the harbours of Khor Rori and Al-Baleed, from which the fragrant resin sailed toward the temples and courts of the ancient and medieval world. UNESCO inscribed the Land of Frankincense in 2000.
