Ljubljana is the compact capital of Slovenia, its historic centre defined by a Baroque and Art Nouveau streetscape along the Ljubljanica River designed in part by architect Jože Plečnik in the interwar years. The castle above the old town is reached by funicular and commands views over the city's red-tiled roofscape and the distant Alps. The Triple Bridge and the Dragon Bridge are the most recognisable landmarks in a city that is walkable and human-scaled.

Bohinj Municipality

Lake Bohinj is the largest permanent natural lake in Slovenia, set in a glacial basin within Triglav National Park at an elevation of 526 metres, surrounded by forested slopes and the peaks of the Julian Alps. Unlike nearby Lake Bled, Bohinj has no island or hillside castle, presenting a more austere alpine landscape that is especially clear in reflections on calm mornings. The Church of St. John the Baptist at Ribčev Laz, with its Gothic frescoes and Romanesque bell tower beside the water, is the most photographed element of the valley.
