Guarded by four copper dragons at its corners, this early twentieth-century Art Nouveau bridge is among the most recognisable landmarks of Ljubljana. The winged beasts refer to the dragon that appears on the city's coat of arms, linked in legend to the hero Jason slaying a monster in the local marshes. Built of reinforced concrete when the technique was still novel, it replaced an older wooden crossing over the Ljubljanica. The sculptures, ornamental lamps, and green patina make it a favourite subject for photographs near the central market.
