The central square of Ljubljana takes its name from the national poet France Prešeren, whose bronze monument gazes toward the balcony of a house associated with his muse. Ringed by the pink Franciscan Church, ornate townhouses, and the meeting point of several streets, it forms the social heart of the city. The nearby Triple Bridge fans out across the Ljubljanica, tying the square to the medieval old town. Traffic-free and lively with cafés, buskers, and festivals, it is the natural starting point for exploring the capital.
