Lake Bled is a glacially formed lake in the Julian Alps, its still surface reflecting the forested slopes and the cliff-top Bled Castle that has stood above it since the eleventh century. At the lake's centre, a small island hosts the Pilgrimage Church of the Assumption, reached by traditional wooden flat-bottomed boats called pletnas. The classic photography position from Ojstrica or Mala Osojnica viewpoints above the lake captures the island, castle, and alpine backdrop in a single frame.
