Budapest

Fisherman's Bastion is a neo-Gothic and neo-Romanesque terrace built between 1895 and 1902 on the Buda Castle Hill. Its seven conical towers represent the seven Magyar chieftains who led the Carpathian conquest, and its open galleries frame panoramic views of the Danube, the Parliament building, and Pest. Sunrise light striking the Parliament across the river is among the most reproduced compositions in Budapest photography.

Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County

Bükk National Park covers the largest continuous forested upland in Hungary, a limestone plateau rising to 959 metres that is perforated by over 900 caves and sinkholes. Beech forests dominate the plateau, with rare steppe meadows on the southern margins that support populations of woodland butterflies and ground-nesting birds. The Szalajka Valley on the park's northern edge combines waterfalls, a narrow-gauge steam railway, and open-air demonstrations of traditional crafts within a wooded river gorge.

Pécs is one of Hungary's oldest cities, with remains spanning Roman Sopianae, a medieval cathedral chapter, Ottoman occupation, and 19th-century industrial heritage. The Mosque of Pasha Gazi Kasim, converted to a Catholic church and now displaying both its Islamic and Christian layers simultaneously, stands at the centre of the main square. The Zsolnay Cultural Quarter celebrates the factory that produced the distinctive pyrogranite tilework seen on rooftops across Budapest and Vienna.
