Hollókő is a preserved Palóc village in the Cserhát hills of northern Hungary, where the traditional timber-frame longhouses with their whitewashed walls and narrow verandahs have remained essentially unchanged since the 17th century. The village women still wear the elaborately embroidered regional costume on feast days, and the narrow main street culminates at a medieval castle ruin on a basalt crag above. It was among the first villages in the world to be included on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
