The Zion Gate is one of the southern entrances to the Old City of Jerusalem, opening from the Armenian and Jewish quarters toward Mount Zion beyond the walls. Built in the 16th century as part of Suleiman the Magnificent's fortifications, its L-shaped passage was designed for defence. The stonework is heavily pockmarked with bullet holes from fighting in 1948, a reminder of the city's divided history. The gate gives access to sites on Mount Zion, including the room of the Last Supper and the Dormition Abbey.
