The Tower of David is an ancient citadel near the Jaffa Gate in the Old City of Jerusalem, guarding the western approach within the historic walls. Despite its name it has no connection to the biblical king; the fortress was rebuilt across the Hasmonean, Herodian, Mamluk, and Ottoman periods, and its minaret dates from the 17th century. Today it houses a museum of the city's history, with excavated ruins in the courtyards and an evening sound-and-light show projected onto the walls. Ramparts offer wide views over the Old City.
