The Montefiore Windmill stands in the Yemin Moshe neighbourhood of Jerusalem, overlooking the walls of the Old City across the Hinnom Valley. Built in 1857 by the philanthropist Sir Moses Montefiore, it was intended to provide flour and livelihoods for Jewish families settling outside the crowded walls in what became one of the first modern quarters of the city. Though it never operated commercially for long, the restored stone tower has become a local landmark and now houses a small museum devoted to Montefiore's life and works.
