National Theatre (Washington, D.C.)

The National Theatre on Pennsylvania Avenue is among the oldest continuously operating theatres in the United States, with a site history stretching back to 1835. Rebuilt several times after fires, the present auditorium hosts touring Broadway musicals, plays and other productions just blocks from the White House. Generations of presidents have attended performances here, earning it a reputation as the capital's theatre of record. It seats around 1,700 and anchors the city's commercial theatre scene.
