This working theatre and historic site is where President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth in April 1865. Restored to its Civil War-era appearance, it presents live plays while also functioning as a museum of Lincoln's presidency and death. Visitors can view the presidential box where the shooting occurred and, across the street, the Petersen House where Lincoln died. Underground galleries display artifacts including the derringer pistol used in the attack, tracing the aftermath and the manhunt for the conspirators.
