This Smithsonian museum holds one of the largest collections of American art in the world, spanning colonial portraits to folk art, Impressionism, and contemporary media. It shares the restored Old Patent Office Building with the National Portrait Gallery, a Greek Revival landmark once used as a Civil War hospital. Highlights include works by Winslow Homer and a folk-art visionary environment. The adjoining Luce Foundation Center displays thousands of objects in open study storage.
