This memorial in the Judiciary Square area honors law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty across the United States. Dedicated in 1991, it consists of curving marble walls inscribed with tens of thousands of names, arranged around a central plaza with two pairs of bronze lions guarding cubs. Trees and pathways soften the setting, and new names are added at an annual candlelight vigil each spring. A companion museum nearby interprets the history and work of American policing.
