The central and most prominent building of Canada's Parliament stands on a bluff above the Ottawa River, crowned by the soaring Peace Tower. Rebuilt in the Gothic Revival style after a fire destroyed the original in 1916, it houses the chambers of the House of Commons and the Senate along with the Library of Parliament at its rear. Carved stone, pointed arches and a great clock tower give it a medieval silhouette. It entered a lengthy restoration in 2019, temporarily relocating the legislature.
