Near the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa, this monument honors the country's long role in United Nations peacekeeping. Three bronze figures, two men and a woman in modern military dress, stand watch atop converging stone walls and rubble suggesting a divided or ruined landscape, evoking the peacekeeper standing between opposing sides. Dedicated in 1992, it was among the first monuments in the world devoted specifically to peacekeeping, a mission tied to Canadian diplomat Lester Pearson. The elevated site overlooks Parliament Hill.
