The Peace Tower is the central bell-and-clock tower rising above the Centre Block of Canada's Parliament buildings, completed in 1927 to honour those who died in the First World War. Standing roughly 92 metres tall in the Gothic Revival style, it houses a 53-bell carillon and the Memorial Chamber, whose altars hold Books of Remembrance listing the war dead. An elevator set at an angle carries visitors to an observation deck over the Ottawa River. The tower's flag and hourly bells make it a defining feature of the capital's skyline.
