This monument in Revolution Square in Bucharest commemorates the victims of the 1989 revolution that overthrew the communist regime. Unveiled in 2005, it consists of a tall white marble spire piercing a dark textured element near its top, popularly nicknamed by residents for its unusual shape. Surrounding elements list the names of those who died. The square was the setting for the final days of the dictatorship, near the balcony from which the last leader fled by helicopter.
