This tapering red sandstone spire on the northern ridge was raised after 1857 to commemorate the soldiers who died fighting for the colonial forces during the siege and recapture of Delhi. Built in a Victorian Gothic idiom, its octagonal tiers rise from a stepped base inscribed with the names and units of the fallen. After independence, a second plaque was added recasting those the British had labelled rebels as freedom fighters. Standing on a high point central to the assault, it offers sweeping views and a layered history.
