Built during the Lodi period around the turn of the sixteenth century, this pavilion takes its name, meaning ship palace, from the way it appears to float when reflected in the adjoining Hauz-i-Shamsi reservoir. The square structure combines domed chhatris, arched openings and glazed tile accents, and likely served as an inn or retreat for travellers and pilgrims. It stands at the heart of Mehrauli near several Sufi shrines and hosts the annual flower-sellers' procession that celebrates the area's syncretic traditions.
