Macau Museum

A history museum built into the ramparts of Mount Fortress, tracing Macau's development from a Chinese fishing settlement into a Portuguese trading port and cultural crossroads. Its galleries recreate colonial streets, temple interiors, and merchant life, illustrating four centuries of encounter between Chinese and European traditions. Reached by escalator through the hillside, the museum emerges onto the fortress plateau with its cannon and views. Exhibits on food and festivals convey the texture of a city shaped by two civilisations.
