A curving Art Nouveau staircase built around 1870 by the banker Abraham Salomon Camondo to shorten his family's route between the banking district of Bankalar Caddesi and their home uphill in Galata. The interlocking hexagonal flights create an unusual double-helix silhouette that was famously photographed by Henri Cartier-Bresson. Today it is one of the most recognizable pieces of street architecture in the district and a favorite subject for photographers.
