A late 18th-century courtyard building at the Tünel end of Istiklal Avenue that first served as the Russian Embassy compound and later housed the tsarist consulate and prison. In the 20th century its cheap studios attracted writers and artists, including the novelist Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar, before the building fell into decay. A restoration completed in 2018 reopened the arcaded courtyard with cafes and shops, preserving the massive Tuscan-columned street front.
