A Dominican church at the foot of Galata Tower, rebuilt in 1841 by the Fossati brothers, the Swiss architects who also restored Hagia Sophia. Its plain rear wall incorporates a stretch of the old Genoese fortifications of Galata, while the basilica interior shelters a venerated icon of the Virgin brought from the Black Sea region. Mass is still celebrated for the small Latin Catholic community of the district.
