Humayun's Tomb changed the course of Indian architecture. Raised in Delhi in 1570, it was the subcontinent's first garden-tomb, and the innovations it launched culminated decades later in the Taj Mahal. Its red sandstone mass and formal garden setting became the model for Mughal dynastic memorials. The tomb was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1993.
