A public park and boating lake in the leafy northern suburbs of Johannesburg, laid out in the early twentieth century opposite the city zoo. Its lawns, mature trees and rowing lake have long been a favourite for picnics, walks and open-air events, and it remains one of the few large parks open to all throughout the city's history. A popular art fair and jazz gatherings take place on its grounds. The park offers a green retreat close to the museums and gardens of the surrounding neighbourhoods.
