A university art museum in Braamfontein holding one of the most significant collections of African art in the country, gathered by the University of the Witwatersrand. Opened in its purpose-built gallery in 2012, it displays historical and contemporary works from across the continent, including sculpture, beadwork, textiles and painting. Rotating exhibitions place classic African art alongside modern practice. The museum has become an anchor of the university's cultural precinct and a leading venue for African visual culture.
