Rising above the fishing quarter of Jamestown, this red-and-white banded lighthouse has guided vessels along Accra's coast since the colonial era, replacing an earlier structure on the same headland. Climbing its internal stairs rewards visitors with a panorama over the tightly packed harbour, dugout canoes drawn up on the beach, and the ruins of nearby fortifications. The surrounding neighbourhood is one of the oldest in the capital, known for boxing gyms and street art. Local guides often accompany visitors up the tower for a small fee.
