This concrete arch anchors the southern edge of Independence Square and commemorates Ghana's break from British colonial rule in 1957. Bearing the words "Freedom and Justice," it forms part of a ceremonial ensemble laid out for state parades and national holidays. Visitors walk beneath its span toward the open parade ground facing the Atlantic. The star atop the structure echoes the black star of the national flag, and the surrounding plaza is often quiet outside official events, making it easy to photograph.
