Rothschild Boulevard is one of the oldest and most prestigious avenues in Tel Aviv, laid out in 1910 as the young city took shape on the dunes north of Jaffa. A wide, tree-shaded pedestrian strip runs down its centre, lined with cafés, benches, and kiosks. The boulevard is famed for its Bauhaus and International Style buildings, part of the ensemble that earned the city UNESCO recognition. The Declaration of Independence was proclaimed in a building along its length, adding historic weight to its architecture.
