Independence Hall on Rothschild Boulevard is the building where the Israeli Declaration of Independence was proclaimed in May 1948. Originally the private home of Tel Aviv's first mayor, Meir Dizengoff, it later served as the city's art museum before the historic ceremony took place in its main hall. The room has been preserved much as it appeared on the day, and the site operates as a museum recounting the founding of the state and the early history of the city. It is a focal point for understanding the modern political story of the region.
