These twin sandstone blocks flank the ceremonial approach to the presidential palace and house the principal ministries of the national government. Completed in the early 1930s as centrepieces of the imperial capital, the North and South Blocks blend classical colonnades with domes and detailing drawn from Indian architecture. Broad ramps rise between them on the ridge known as Raisina Hill, framing the grand vista along the central avenue. Their long facades and chattris make them among the most photographed government buildings.
