This large fourteenth-century mosque once served as the congregational mosque of Jahanpanah, one of the medieval cities that make up historic Delhi. Built in the Tughlaq style, it centres on a vast open courtyard framed by arched cloisters and crowned by a tall central gateway arch. Its raised platform and multiple domed bays give it a commanding presence above the village that grew up within and around the ruins. Largely undisturbed by tourism, it conveys the scale and severity of Sultanate architecture.
