This circular colonnaded building is the historic seat of the Indian Parliament, completed in the late 1920s as part of the imperial capital designed under British rule. Its distinctive open verandah of sandstone columns encircles a low dome, and the interior houses the chambers that hosted the legislature after independence. The building witnessed the transfer of power in 1947 and generations of debate that shaped the nation. Standing near the avenue leading to India Gate, it remains a defining image of the country's institutions.
