This Mughal-era bridge in the Lodi Gardens dates from the reign of Emperor Akbar in the late sixteenth century and is one of the oldest surviving bridges in the capital. Its name means eight piers, describing the seven arches carried on stone supports that once spanned a stream feeding the area's watercourses. Built of rough grey stone, it now crosses a small ornamental channel within the park rather than a working river. Framed by lawns and old trees, the low arched structure is a favourite backdrop for wedding photographs.
